Exotic branes in Exceptional Field Theory: the SL(5) duality group

We study how exotic branes, i.e. branes whose tensions are proportional to g−αs, with α>2, are realised in Exceptional Field Theory (EFT). The generalised torsion of the Weitzenbock connection of the SL(5) EFT which, in the language of gauged supergravity describes the embedding tensor, is shown to classify the exotic branes whose magnetic fluxes can fit into four internal dimensions. By analysing the weight diagrams of the corresponding representations of SL(5) we determine the U-duality orbits relating geometric and non-geometric fluxes. As a further application of the formalism we consider the Kaluza-Klein monopole of 11D supergravity and rotate it into the exotic 53-brane.

A note on mock automorphic forms and the BPS index

arXiv:1710.06653

Tian An Wong

We show that mock automorphic forms obtained from weak harmonic Maa{\ss} forms give rise to nontrivial (g,K)-cohomology, providing evidence for replacing the `holomorphic' condition with `cohomological' when generalizing to general reductive groups. We note that such a candidate allows for growing Fourier coefficients, in contrast to automorphic forms under the Miatello-Wallach conjecture. The second part of this note surveys the connection with BPS black hole counts as a physical motivation for introducing mock automorphic forms.

Sum of interpolated multiple q-zeta values

arXiv:1710.04025

Zhonghua Li, Noriko Wakabayashi

Interpolated multiple q-zeta values are deformation of multiple q-zeta values with one parameter, t, and restore classical multiple zeta values as t=0 and q→1. In this paper, we discuss generating functions for sum of interpolated multiple q-zeta values with fixed weight, depth and i-height. The functions are systematically expressed in terms of the basic hypergeometric functions. Compared with the result of Ohno and Zagier, our result includes three generalizations: general height, q-deformation and t-interpolation. As an application, we prove some expected relations for interpolated multiple q-zeta values including sum formulas.

Vafa-Witten theory and iterated integrals of modular forms

arXiv:1709.10098

Jan Manschot

Vafa-Witten (VW) theory is a topologically twisted version of N=4 supersymmetric Yang-Mills theory. S-duality suggests that the partition function of VW theory with gauge group SU(N) transforms as a modular form under duality transformations. Interestingly, Vafa and Witten demonstrated the presence of a modular anomaly, when the theory has gauge group SU(2) and is considered on the complex projective plane P2. This modular anomaly could be expressed as an integral of a modular form, and also be traded for a holomorphic anomaly. We demonstrate that the modular anomaly for gauge group SU(3) involves an iterated integral of modular forms. Moreover, the modular anomaly for SU(3) can be traded for a holomorphic anomaly, which is shown to factor into a product of the partition functions for lower rank gauge groups. The SU(3) partition function is mathematically an example of a mock modular form of depth two.

Reflection states in Ding-Iohara-Miki algebra and brane-web for D-type quiver

Reflection states are introduced in the vertical and horizontal modules of the Ding-Iohara-Miki (DIM) algebra (quantum toroidal gl1). Webs of DIM representations are in correspondence with (p,q)-web diagrams of type IIB string theory, under the identification of the algebraic intertwiner of Awata, Feigin and Shiraishi with the refined topological vertex. Extending the correspondence to the vertical reflection states, it is possible to engineer the N=1 quiver gauge theory of D-type (with unitary gauge groups). In this way, the Nekrasov instanton partition function is reproduced from the evaluation of expectation values of intertwiners. This computation leads to the identification of the vertical reflection state with the orientifold plane of string theory.

K3 Elliptic Genus and an Umbral Moonshine Module

Umbral moonshine connects the symmetry groups of the 23 Niemeier lattices with 23 sets of distinguished mock modular forms. The 23 cases of umbral moonshine have a uniform relation to symmetries of K3 string theories. Moreover, a supersymmetric vertex operator algebra with Conway sporadic symmetry also enjoys a close relation to the K3 elliptic genus. Inspired by the above two relations between moonshine and K3 string theory, we construct a chiral CFT by orbifolding the free theory of 24 chiral fermions and two pairs of fermionic and bosonic ghosts. In this paper we mainly focus on the case of umbral moonshine corresponding to the Niemeier lattice with root system given by 6 copies of D4 root system. This CFT then leads to the construction of an infinite-dimensional graded module for the umbral group GD⊕64 whose graded characters coincide with the umbral moonshine functions. We also comment on how one can recover all umbral moonshine functions corresponding to the Niemeier root systems A⊕45D4, A⊕27D⊕25 , A11D7E6, A17E7, and D10E⊕27.
