Physics and geometry of knots-quivers correspondence

arXiv:1811.03110

Tobias Ekholm, Piotr Kucharski, Pietro Longhi

The recently conjectured knots-quivers correspondence relates gauge theoretic invariants of a knot K in the 3-sphere to representation theory of a quiver QK associated to the knot. In this paper we provide geometric and physical contexts for this conjecture within the framework of the large N duality of Ooguri and Vafa, that relates knot invariants to counts of holomorphic curves with boundary on LK, the conormal Lagrangian of the knot in the resolved conifold, and corresponding M-theory considerations. From the physics side, we show that the quiver encodes a 3d N=2 theory T[QK] whose low energy dynamics arises on the worldvolume of an M5 brane wrapping the knot conormal and we match the (K-theoretic) vortex partition function of this theory with the motivic generating series of QK. From the geometry side, we argue that the spectrum of (generalized) holomorphic curves on LK is generated by a finite set of basic disks. These disks correspond to the nodes of the quiver QK and the linking of their boundaries to the quiver arrows. We extend this basic dictionary further and propose a detailed map between quiver data and topological and geometric properties of the basic disks that again leads to matching partition functions. We also study generalizations of A-polynomials associated to QK and (doubly) refined version of LMOV invariants.

From quantum curves to topological string partition functions

arXiv:1811.01978

Ioana Coman, Elli Pomoni, Jörg Teschner

This paper describes the reconstruction of the topological string partition function for certain local Calabi-Yau (CY) manifolds from the quantum curve, an ordinary differential equation obtained by quantising their defining equations. Quantum curves are characterised as solutions to a Riemann-Hilbert problem. The isomonodromic tau-functions associated to these Riemann-Hilbert problems admit a family of natural normalisations labelled by topological types of the Fenchel-Nielsen networks used in the Abelianisation of flat connections. To each chamber in the extended Kähler moduli space of the local CY under consideration there corresponds a unique topological type. The corresponding isomonodromic tau-functions admit a series expansion of generalised theta series type from which one can extract the topological string partition functions for each chamber.

Hamiltonians for the zeros of a general family of zeta functions

arXiv:1810.11662

Su Hu, Min-Soo Kim

Towards the Hilbert-Pólya conjecture, in this paper, we present a general construction of Hamiltonian H^f, which leads a general family of Hurwitz zeta functions (−1)zn−1L(f,zn,x−1) defined by Mellin transform becomes their eigenstates under a suitable boundary condition, and the eigenvalues En have the property that zn=12(1−iEn) are the zeros of a general family of zeta functions L(f,z).

Towards a Classification of Two-Character Rational Conformal Field Theories

arXiv:1810.09472

A. Ramesh Chandra, Sunil Mukhi

We provide a simple and general construction of infinite families of consistent, modular-covariant pairs of characters satisfying the basic requirements to describe two-character RCFT. These correspond to solutions of generic second-order modular linear differential equations. To find these solutions, we first construct "quasi-characters" from the Kaneko-Zagier equation and subsequent works by Kaneko and collaborators, together with coset dual generalisations that we provide in this paper. We relate our construction to the Hecke images recently discussed by Harvey and Wu.

Computing the elliptic genus of higher rank E-strings from genus 0 GW invariants

arXiv:1810.01280

Zhihao Duan, Jie Gu, Amir-Kian Kashani-Poor

We show that the elliptic genus of the higher rank E-strings can be computed based solely on the genus 0 Gromov-Witten invariants of the corresponding elliptic geometry. To set up our computation, we study the structure of the topological string free energy on elliptically fibered Calabi-Yau manifolds both in the unrefined and the refined case, determining the maximal amount of the modular structure of the partition function that can be salvaged. In the case of fibrations exhibiting only isolated fibral curves, we show that the principal parts of the topological string partition function at given base-wrapping can be computed from the knowledge of the genus 0 Gromov-Witten invariants at this base-wrapping, and the partition function at lower base-wrappings. For the class of geometries leading to the higher rank E-strings, this leads to the result stated in the opening sentence.

3d Modularity

arXiv:1809.10148

Miranda C. N. Cheng, Sungbong Chun, Francesca Ferrari, Sergei Gukov, Sarah M. Harrison

We find and propose an explanation for a large variety of modularity-related symmetries in problems of 3-manifold topology and physics of 3d N=2 theories where such structures a priori are not manifest. These modular structures include: mock modular forms, SL(2,Z) Weil representations, quantum modular forms, non-semisimple modular tensor categories, and chiral algebras of logarithmic CFTs.

Quantum-Mechanical interpretation of Riemann zeta function zeros

arXiv:1809.09491

George Savvidy, Konstantin Savvidy

We demonstrate that the Riemann zeta function zeros define the position and the widths of the resonances of the quantised Artin dynamical system. The Artin dynamical system is defined on the fundamental region of the modular group on the Lobachevsky plane. It has a finite volume and an infinite extension in the vertical direction that correspond to a cusp. In classical regime the geodesic flow in the fundamental region represents one of the most chaotic dynamical systems, has mixing of all orders, Lebesgue spectrum and non-zero Kolmogorov entropy. In quantum-mechanical regime the system can be associated with the narrow infinitely long waveguide stretched out to infinity along the vertical axis and a cavity resonator attached to it at the bottom. That suggests a physical interpretation of the Maass automorphic wave function in the form of an incoming plane wave of a given energy entering the resonator, bouncing inside the resonator and scattering to infinity. As the energy of the incoming wave comes close to the eigenmodes of the cavity a pronounced resonance behaviour shows up in the scattering amplitude.

Structural properties of multiple zeta values

arXiv:1809.07492

Tanay Wakhare, Christophe Vignat

We study some classical identities for multiple zeta values and show that they still hold for zeta functions built on the zeros of an arbitrary function. We introduce the complementary zeta function of a system, which naturally occurs when lifting identities for multiple zeta values to identities for quasisymmetric functions.

An overview and supplements to the theory of functional relations for zeta-functions of root systems

arXiv:1809.01815

Yasushi Komori, Kohji Matsumoto, Hirofumi Tsumura

We give an overview of the theory of functional relations for zeta-functions of root systems, and show some new results on functional relations involving zeta-functions of root systems of types Br, Dr, A3 and C2. To show those new results, we use two different methods. The first method, for Br, Dr, A3, is via generating functions, which is based on the symmetry with respect to Weyl groups, or more generally, on our theory of lattice sums of certain hyperplane arrangements. The second method for C2 is more elementary, using partial fraction decompositions.
