We show that specializations of the 4d N=2 superconformal index labeled by an integer N is given by TrMN where M is the Kontsevich-Soibelman monodromy operator for BPS states on the Coulomb branch. We provide evidence that the states enumerated by these limits of the index lead to a family of 2d chiral algebras AN. This generalizes the recent results for the N=−1 case which corresponds to the Schur limit of the superconformal index. We show that this specialization of the index leads to the same integrand as that of the elliptic genus of compactification of the superconformal theory on S2×T2 where we turn on 12N units of U(1)r flux on S2.

The $\mathcal{N}=2$ Schur index from free fermions

arXiv:1510.07041

J. Bourdier, N. Drukker, J. Felix

We study the Schur index of 4-dimensional N=2 circular quiver theories. We show that the index can be expressed as a weighted sum over partition functions describing systems of free Fermions living on a circle. For circular SU(N) quivers of arbitrary length we evaluate the large N limit of the index, up to exponentially suppressed corrections. For the single node theory (N=4 SYM) and the two node quiver we are able to go beyond the large N limit, and obtain the complete, all orders large Nexpansion of the index, as well as explicit finite N results in terms of elliptic functions.

Heterotic string on the CHL orbifold of K3

arXiv:1510.05425

S. Datta, J.R. David, D. Lust

We study N=2 compactifications of heterotic string theory on the CHL orbifold (K3×T2)/ZN with N=2,3,5,7. ZNacts as an involution on K3 together with a shift of 1/N along one of the circles of T2. These compactifications generalize the example of the heterotic string on K3×T2 studied in the context of dualities in N=2 string theories. We evaluate the new supersymmetric index for these theories and show that their expansion can written in terms of the McKay-Thompson series associated with the ZN involution embedded in the Mathieu group M24. We then evaluate the difference in one-loop threshold corrections to the non-Abelian gauge couplings with Wilson lines and show that their moduli dependence is captured by Siegel modular forms related to dyon partition functions of N=4 string theories.

Random matrices

We provide a self-contained introduction to random matrices. While some applications are mentioned, our main emphasis is on three different approaches to random matrix models: the Coulomb gas method and its interpretation in terms of algebraic geometry, loop equations and their solution using topological recursion, orthogonal polynomials and their relation with integrable systems. Each approach provides its own definition of the spectral curve, a geometric object which encodes all the properties of a model. We also introduce the two peripheral subjects of counting polygonal surfaces, and computing angular integrals.

The ${\cal N}=4$ Schur index with Polyakov loops

arXiv:1510.02480

N. Drukker

Recently the Schur index of N=4 SYM was evaluated in closed form to all orders including exponential corrections in the large N expansion and for fixed finite N. This was achieved by identifying the matrix model which calculates the index with the partition function of a system of free fermions on a circle. The index can be enriched by the inclusion of loop operators and the case of Wilson loops is particularly easy, as it amounts to inserting extra characters into the matrix model. The Fermi-gas approach is applied here to this problem, the formalism is explored and explicit results at large N are found for the fundamental as well as a few other symmetric and antisymmetric representations.

Generalized Springer theory and weight functions

We show that each Weyl group which enters in the generalized Springer correspondence carries a natural weight function.
